Born in Perth, Western Australia, Megan Gale is part Maori [1] and is the youngest of three children with two older brothers.[2][3] Megan Gale dated Australian comedian Andy Lee from November 2006 until October 2010. The pair, however, remain close friends and kept their split hidden from the media until it was announced on 15 December 2010.[4]

After winning a modelling competition in Perth at 18,[3] Gale then moved to Sydney.[citation needed] After several years of modelling, Gale was cast to appear in a series of advertisements for the Italian telecommunications commercials, Omnitel (now Vodafone Italy); she appeared in the company's advertising from 1999 until 2006.[5] She was also retained by the Australian Tourist Commission in 2003 as 'their face of Australia in Italy'.[3]

Gale has modelled for Italian fashion houses such as Gianfranco Ferré, Genny and Gai Mattiolo and favours many Australian designers, such as Colette Dinnigan, Sass & Bide, and Alex Perry.[3][citation needed] Recently she was the fashion commentator for the Australian television awards, the Logies.[3][citation needed] She has been the face of the upmarket Australian department store David Jones since August 2001.[citation needed] Gale's appearances on the catwalk in the famous annual fashion parades are extremely popular and she has helped to raise David Jones' profile to the younger market and trendy fashion designers.[citation needed]

In January 2008, Gale announced her retirement from catwalk modelling after 15 years and strutted down the catwalk for the last time just weeks later at a David Jones winter collection launch in Sydney. Her final outfit was the Wonder Woman outfit she was to wear in the still-shelved film Justice League of America.[6] She has since been replaced on the catwalk by Victoria's Secret Angel Miranda Kerr[7] although she is still contracted to the store as Brand Ambassador until 2011.[citation needed]

Megan Gale has also tried her hand at acting and appeared in the Italian movies Vacanze di Natale,[8] Bodyguards - Guardie del corpo[9] (as herself in both movies), and Stregata Dalla Luna (as Vivianna).[10] She also had a cameo part in the 2005 movie Stealth where she played a role as Dr. Orbit's secretary.[10] In January 2008, it was announced that she had been offered the part of Wonder Woman in the upcoming George Miller movie version of Justice League of America, before the project was put on hold.[5][11]

In August 2009, Gale completed filming a role in her first Australian feature film, the romantic comedy I Love You Too.[1][5] In the film, Gale plays Italian supermodel Francesca Moretti, a role she was able to use her previous modeling experience for.[11]

In 2005, Gale became a guest reporter for Nine Network travel show Getaway from October 2005 to June 2006.[12] She also worked with Mike Munro as co-host of the nine-episode Australian documentary TV show What a Year, which first aired on the Nine Network on 2 October 2006.[12]

Gale also became the National Ambassador for Kids Help Line in February 2005.[13] In 2009, she was appointed the first official National Ambassador for The Red Cross.[14]

Gale regularly featured on the Hamish and Andy radio show as a "guest caller", hosted by her former partner Andy Lee and Hamish Blake. On Tuesday, 16 March 2010, Gale replaced Andy Lee for the day as he was in hospital having surgery to repair a facial injury which he suffered while playing ice hockey with Hamish. She has also featured as a guest co-host multiple times on the Saturday morning Fifi Box show.
